Crafted by the Yanomami tribe of Northern Amazonia, these baskets are hand made using techniques that have been passed down through generations.
The Yanomami are the hunter-agriculturists of the tropical rainforest of Northern Amazonia. The ethnonym 'Yanomami' comes from the the expression yanõmami thëpë that signifies 'human beings'. For the Yanomami, urihi, the forest-land, is not a space for exploitation (of what we call 'nature') but rather a living entity, part of a complex cosmological dynamic of exchanges between humans and non-humans.
